A much needed Gallery Trip

Hello again!

I know it's only been a couple of days since my last post, but after giving myself a stern talking to I decided I needed to get back into the habit of going to galleries and museums to draw and I wanted to post the results asap. I'd kind of trailed off a bit since my drawing-buddy Shannon went back to the US of A and yesterday I made the effort to get back into it.

I also got my feedback from my assessment, and while I actually did pretty well, they did say I should be getting some more observational and figure drawing into my sketchbooks to support my other work.

I started off looking at evidence of the ageing process in the work there (for reasons that will become apparent when my final project is complete) and then I just started enjoying the light on the sculptures (always my favourite to draw from).

Used pencil, my trusty pentel styli refill (my ultimate fav pen) and some good ol poscas.

National Museum of Scotland

Hey hey!

Here's a little location piece I did while I was on holiday in Scotland. Went to the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh and it was abso-bloomin-lutely fantastic. I was only there for a day so unfortunately I didn't get to go round all of it, but I'm definitely going back if I get the chance!

So here's my scary, smiley crocodile, and I'll see you soon with more work!

Trip to Wellcome

Hey hey!

So here's a little piece, hot off the... sketchbook, from my trip to the Wellcome Collection this very morning. Crazy place, full of random medical history bits and other oddness, but well worth it (another free museum - hooray!).

This particular gem was a snuff box... made of a real ram's head. Whatever floats your boat.

Paris Draw-a-thon 2011

Hey hey!

In a break from tradition I'm going to be putting the images I'm uploading below instead of above, as I feel you need a warning beforehand - there's quite a lot. These aren't even all of them, just a small selection of pieces that I liked.
I considered posting them over a period of time but a. I'd probably forget, and b. you'd inevitably get bored of "Here's another Paris post!"
I've deliberately left out the bright pink Notre Dame I did (nobody needs to see that - I think the sun had got to me) but otherwise I'm pretty pleased with the work! I really enjoyed getting back to working on coloured paper and only being able to work very immediately - no computer access! I also really liked the hazy pastels that kept creeping into stuff; I definitely want to use that more.

Anyway! Here's to it...














So! Hope you liked some of them! Words cannot express how wonderful it was just to spend four days drawing. Any comments/opinions always welcome - they make me happy in my soul!

Cambridge Trip

A page depicting my day in Cambridge with my family! Jamie's Italian for lunch, a nosy round the beautiful King's College chapel, and then off to Brown's for afternoon tea. Nice.

The British Museum

Another piece from the weekly drawing trips! This was done on Friday at the British Museum, where there were lots and lots of people looking over both the shoulders of myself and my friend Shannon (you can see her work here: singraham.com ).

This is actually an statue of Venus been caught bathing; I loved the hands so I wanted to capture their expression. I'm not sure about nudity warnings and what-not on here but I'll tag it as such and hope for the best. It's technically just stone, but meh.

Covent Garden Goodtimes

The extraordinarily cool string quintet that was playing at Covent Garden on Friday. Every now and again they'd rush towards the audience in time to the music. Which was incredible.
