Nightmares at the Museum of Childhood

Hey hey!

So I went to the Museum of Childhood down at Bethnal Green today with fellow illustrator Shannon Taylor (Ingraham as was - ch-ch-check it - shannondtaylor.com) where they have their current "Stuff of Nightmares" exhibition on. At first you think it's kind of funny with its mismatched dolls and papier mache trees and ravens, but if you sit there for a long time with all these creepy misshapen toys staring at you while the eerie woodsy sounds play it actually makes you feel a bit weirded out.
Kudos to the V&A: they actually managed to get me to draw something vaguely tense and foreboding instead of colour-happy-joy-joy.
Hats off also to all the parents not afraid to risk the screaming of their children. Although there's a distinct possibility that all parents loose all ability to react to loud noises. The ones today certainly seemed unconcerned at the din of what felt like several hundred kids in one large, but confined, space.

Anyways, see you soon!

Skulls and Skullduggery

Afternoon all!

Been a bit quiet on here as of late - I've got a new job so I've been off getting sorted for that (hence the skullduggery), but here's a piece I did just before that at the amazing Grant Museum of Zoology. Got quite a few odd looks as I stood for over an hour drawing a jar of skulls but it was too good an opportunity to miss - how often do you get to draw in a place that's decked out like a witches larder?

Next time I should be posting a sample of my lovely new business cards - exciting!

See you soon

The British Museum

Another piece from the weekly drawing trips! This was done on Friday at the British Museum, where there were lots and lots of people looking over both the shoulders of myself and my friend Shannon (you can see her work here: singraham.com ).

This is actually an statue of Venus been caught bathing; I loved the hands so I wanted to capture their expression. I'm not sure about nudity warnings and what-not on here but I'll tag it as such and hope for the best. It's technically just stone, but meh.
