Wildfire

Hello my lovely loves!

Here's a little piece I've had in my brain box since the last season finale of Game of Thrones! I've finally got it finished.

That Cersei. She's such a good baddie.

Enjoy!

Close up. Crush those enemies, girl.

Exhibition Booklet Idea

Hello again!

Here's a little idea for a promotional booklet for the upcoming exhibition I'm in over at the Blackall Gallery in Shoreditch, using my favourite booklet/hidden poster format. I'm not sure whether it's going to be feasible, but if I had unlimited funds/time, then hand-folding a couple of hundred of these to give out would be lovely.

In any case, if you're around on the 12th - 17th April then come check it out! There'll be 63 illustrators showing! This is the place: http://www.blackallstudios.com/

Hopefully see you there. If not, speak to you soon!

Mo' Commissions

Hello again!

So here's a few more of the backlog of pieces for a Children's text book over in Ireland. I've got some more pieces for kids text books lined up for a pretty big publisher here in Blighty that should be pretty exciting, but I won't give too much away on that score - not sure how much I can.

I also handed in all my work to be assessed for my MA today. It's the first of the two big assessments, and while I shouldn't worry about it, it's actually pretty nerve-racking. Partially because I've put everything I've done in the last 15 months in there, but mostly because I've had to leave all my lovely, lovely sketchbooks somewhere other than my room or my handbag. Weird.

I kept a new one back just for the occasion though. Couldn't face going cold turkey.

See you soon!

Commission backlog

Hello again!

For a while I've been doing commissions for various Children's text books. It's nice work; varied, fun and usually a bit of a challenge - as you can probably tell from the interesting mix of Christmas, Shakespeare scene and lederhosen.
I wasn't actually sure whether the publisher's would be ok with me putting stuff up here but I checked with my agency and apparently it's absolutely fine so here's a couple of pieces from the backlog!
I'll most likely put a few more up in a week or so (providing I remember lol) so...

See you soon!

So yeah. I made this.

In the slightly odd place now where I want to show you guys this, because it's something I made and enjoyed making but I'm also slightly embarrassed about it coz the whole idea was a bit... nice. And for some reason I, in all my Britishness, go all pink when people catch me being sweet and mushy.
But anyway.
I made this book for my friend Shannon (who has appeared several times throughout this blog and is, as i have mentioned, the awesome artist of shannondtaylor.com) because she went back to America this autumn (...fall... whatever.) to get married. And as San Francisco is quite far from London, and she's left a lot of friends behind, I thought it'd be nice if she could have a book of all their wishes for her on her wedding day. (Although apparently her mum gave it to her the day before so she wouldn't cry all over her dress.)
Thanks to all who were in on the secret and wrote in the book and special props to Mamma Ingraham for being super-sneaky-awesome about the whole thing.

Enjoy... and I promise to upload something grittier next time lol.

See you soon

Work In Progress - Henry VIII

Hey hey lovely people!

Here's the sneaky peek I promised you into the work I'm doing for my MA project! This jaunty Henry is going to be part of M's page. Yeah, you guessed it... Matrimony! Definitely his favourite thing.
I wanted to wait until the page is done but every time I look at him I giggle a little bit so I had to share it with you.

Enjoy! And see you soon!

One Hundred Years of Solitude

Hey hey!

Here's the piece I entered into the Penguin Design Award this past year! I'm really pleased with the outcome - this one was a lot of fun to do! I didn't get shortlisted but I'm pretty much just planning to continue entering until I do (Take note Penguin, you're not getting rid of me that easily!).

Anyway! Been beavering away on my MA project and i'm planning to give you guys some sneaky peeks into the soon.

See you later!

I like to move it (move it)

Here's a little selection of one of the many things I've been doing recently. It's actually pretty nice for my atrocious lack of updates to be because I've been legitimately busy.
Because some of those things are for clients and are yet to be published, I can't actually show you those, but here's a little side project that I had going on for a little numbers books with dancing animals.
There's actually a whole story about dancing animals that this came from, but I won't go into that. For now, here's a Charleston-doing crocodile, some Tango-ing tigers and some rhinos doing the robot.

Hells yeah.

Dinner and a Draw

Hey hey!

So! I've been a busy little bee working away for my MA Mid Point Review, but I'm glad to say that went rather well, so I can start posting again!
In celebration of the midpoint success (and because we try to go out to dinner on a regular basis) some friends and I went and had a very posh pizza and then went to the Life Drawing class over at the Book Club sponsored by Cass Art.
The Book Club's a great little venue, and seems to have quite a lot of great things running (electro swing and blues nights!) and the class itself was great. The leader was giving out tips, wine and all art materials were included in the cost. Excellent.

Anyway! Here's my favourites of the sketches I did. A short 5 minute (in the middle) and two 15's. Please excuse the quality of the digital copies - these are on A2 so running them through my A4 scanner would be difficult.

See you soon!

Ezekiel Book Cover

Another design for my agent; had a lot of fun with neon signs and typography on this one. Enjoy!
